China Petrochemical Industry to Maintain Demand Growth in the Long Term Despite Ongoing Slowdown

China has established itself as the largest petrochemicals market globally, owing to an impressive demand from its large population. China succeeded in recovering early from the global economic slowdown in 2009 because of strong domestic demand and strong government backing. At a time when the global petrochemical industry was reeling from diminishing demand due to the recession, the Chinese government unveiled a specific package to boost its petrochemical and refining industries. The package, worth $73 billion, was unveiled in February 2009 and focused on industrial restructuring and speeding up petrochemical projects. The package not only helped in reviving the demand but also increased the petrochemicals capacity and production.
